Smith & Associates, a Houston-based independent global distributor of electronic components which specializes in finding parts on the open market, brought Data Projections on for a multi-faceted audio visual solutions project. Smith & Associates’ focus on employee retention and motivation as well as operational and financial efficiencies lead them to improve their audio paging system and integrate a videoconferencing solution across the entire organization to alleviate travel costs and improve communication.
On Smith & Associates’ trading floor, Data Projections installed seven LED displays and an upgraded audio system to provide immediate information distribution, employee entertainment and face-to-face communication amongst employees located across the world.
Two LED displays were installed in the employee lounge, one in the café, one in the work station, one in the large conference room and one in each of the small conference rooms.
Along with the 70” displays in the lounge, a gaming system was installed for entertainment to allow employees time to relax and regain focus when needed. In the café, a 60” display was installed; also for employees to utilize and enjoy during their lunch breaks. Having areas for employees to unwind was very important to the culture of Smith & Associates.
Two small conference rooms were integrated with 60” LED displays with Polycom peripheral equipment including cameras, mics, cables, adapters and camera shelves. A 70” display was installed in the large conference room along with a Crestron transmitter to provide HDMI and VGA connection for local presentations. With global operations, Smith & Associates utilizes these rooms primarily for videoconferencing and content sharing. Data Projections provided control system programming for ease of use of the videoconferencing technology. Each of the three Polycom codecs were integrated into the system and configured onto the network by Data Projections and Smith’s IT team.
The work station LED display is used as a digital signage center for content distribution for employee and client viewing. The digital signage solution provides Smith & Associates the ability to post information immediately and consistently with updated employee and client announcements.
A high energy setting, the trading floor can be a busy and somewhat noisy environment. Smith & Associates needed to upgrade their audio paging system throughout the entire floor for necessary communication distribution. Data Projections installed 10 JBL extended bass ceiling speakers to accommodate this need.
Smith & Associates has been extremely satisfied with the quality of work Data Projections provided and with the technology solutions integrated to meet their communication needs. Employees now have a place to relax and enjoy themselves when taking a break from the hectic work day which will lead to employee retention. The audio paging system has improved the communication throughout the entire trading floor. And by integrating a videoconferencing solution in three different conference rooms, employees can meet face-to-face with colleagues on the other side of the world, enabling them to make real-time decisions and decision-making more efficient for the entire company.
